About me
Stephen is a Partner in Daniel Watney’s Rating team, recently joining the firm in October 2025. He has over 15 years’ experience in professional practice, predominantly advising clients within Central London and South East England.
Stephen provides Rating advice to both landlords and tenants, with a tailored approach to minimise liability, provide reliable accruals and where applicable, present strategy to mitigate empty rate liability. In terms of property classes, he mainly deals with office, industrial and retail properties and has successfully negotiated non-domestic rating appeals on behalf of ratepayers under the 2005, 2010, 2017 and 2023 rating lists.
His experience includes being client manager for owners and occupiers of commercial property, who are nationally and regionally based. The instructions have ranged from single Rateable Value assessments to property portfolios. This involves identifying opportunities to reduce business rates liability, providing strategic advice, appeals management and attending progress and update meetings as required.
He is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, an Honours member of the Institute of Revenues Rating and Valuation and a full member of the Rating Surveyors’ Association.
