During extensive refurbishment works across multiple floors, we successfully derated the unoccupied floors, reflecting their status accurately on the Rating List.

However, Camden Council disputed this and attempted to serve a completion notice, requiring the floors to be reinstated on the Rating List within an unreasonably short timeframe.

Daniel Watney Partnership challenged the Council’s position, arguing that the proposed six-week period was insufficient for the client to complete the refurbishment and secure tenants. The matter was taken to tribunal, where the team successfully secured a delay of the completion notice from 16th December 2024 to 5th May 2025. This extension granted the client an additional six months to finalise works and achieve occupation, resulting in significant business rates savings during the refurbishment period.
