Planning consent for residential amalgamation at 76 Cathcart Rd

Secured planning committee approval at RBKC for the amalgamation of two substandard one-bedroom flats into a single two-bedroom home at ground and lower ground floors.

This case tested RBKC’s recently adopted Local Plan policy HO1, which generally resists the amalgamation of self-contained homes to protect housing supply but allows limited exceptions where existing units are significantly below minimum size and quality standards. While the existing units did not fully meet the policy’s substandard criteria, our case demonstrated that the amalgamation would optimize the layout and living environment to better meet identified housing needs.
