The opportunity

We’re looking for two experienced, commercially minded Business Rates Surveyors to join our expanding London team. In this client-facing role, you’ll manage rating appeals, valuations, and negotiations across a wide range of property sectors, including office, retail, industrial, and specialist assets.

About your role

In this role, you will help clients minimise their business rates liabilities while staying fully compliant with legislation and deadlines. You will work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary firm, partnering with valuation, agency, and lease advisory teams — and backed by strong administrative and technical support so you can focus on delivering results.

What you will be doing

  • Advise clients on business rates across all types of commercial property, guiding them through the full Check, Challenge and Appeal process — from initial review to negotiations with the VOA and, where needed, representation at Valuation Tribunal.
  • Gather and analyse rental and valuation data, prepare evidence, and present it clearly through well-structured reports, letters and calculations.
  • Work closely with clients, local authorities and professional bodies, building strong relationships while keeping cases on track and meeting key deadlines.
  • Keep up to date with legislation, case law and industry trends, sharing insights and contributing to pitches and business development.

What we are looking for

  • MRICS, IRRV (Hons), or RSA qualification
  • Proven track record in business rates or valuation surveying
  • Strong understanding of rating legislation and VOA procedures
  • Confident negotiator with excellent communication skills
  • Client-focused, commercially aware, and detail-oriented
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office and valuation software
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to juggle a varied caseload

Great to have

  • Experience representing clients at Valuation Tribunal
  • Knowledge across retail, office, and industrial assets
  • Familiarity with property tech platforms or databases
  • Interest in mentoring junior colleagues
  • Business development experience or portfolio responsibility

What’s in it for you

  • 25 Days Off & Bank Holidays
  • Flexible Working After Probation
  • Private Medical Cover (Vitality)
  • Matching Pension Contributions
  • Professional Memberships
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Employee-Led Groups & Committees
