John Harding

John Harding

Senior Partner

John has over 35 years of experience and his career has spanned all areas of development, investment and transactional work.

He fulfills two primary roles for the business: the first as head of Daniel Watney’s transactional business and the second leading the specialist not for profit team. John works closely with a number of livery companies, charities and not-for-profit institutions as well as traditional investors and developers providing advice and guidance through the complexities of the development process.

He is appointed surveyor to six City Livery Companies and lead client report to The Dulwich Estate, The Central Gospel Hall Trust and YMCA London South West and has London wide development experience.

John also undertakes voluntary work for the RICS and chairs APC Assessment Panels.

Julian Goddard

Julian Goddard

Partner

Julian heads the residential departments at Daniel Watney, with responsibility for overseeing the residential management and agency teams. Having trained with Copping Joyce Chartered Surveyors, Julian joined the firm in 1996, and his experience in the central London residential market now extends to over 25 years.

Julian works with a number of charities, livery companies, property companies, family trusts and private landlords, together with freeholders, right-to-manage companies, and resident management companies. He regularly provides guidance on a wide range of residential projects including agency and development advice, as well on residential matters within the larger, mixed-use schemes and portfolios with which we are involved. Julian is also involved with residential block management and leasehold reform matters, working closely with the residential valuations teams.

He is a lead client report for a number of the firm’s clients including family trusts and charities, such as Richard Cloudsley’s Charity and the Estate Charity of William Hatcliffe, offering strategic investment and management advice for their London portfolios.

Richard Close

Richard Close

Partner

As the partner in Charge of our Lease Advisory team, Richard provides rent review and lease renewal advice to owners and occupiers, as wider strategic real estate advice in terms of occupational strategies to include relocation, mitigating dilapidations, rating and service charge liabilities.

He is also the lead partner of our Valuation team working closely with clients to provide the highest standard of valuation advice for a wide range of purposes.

His clients include large and small corporate organisations, institutional clients, asset managers and property companies. He also acts for a large a number of Barrister Chambers and Charities.

Richard has over 21 years of experience in the market. He is a member of the RICS, a regulated RICS Valuer, an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and a member of the Investment Property Forum. He holds a degree from the University of West of England, Bristol and a Post Graduate Diploma in Property Investment.

Richard Garner

Richard Garner

Partner

Richard joined Daniel Watney in 1998, and has vast experience across a range of disciplines in the central London market. His original focus was on lease advisory and valuation which provides a technical basis supporting his current specialism in commercial agency.

Richard is Partner in charge of our Commercial Agency team and advises a range of clients on all transactional elements of a deal including acquisitions and disposals for tenants, owner occupiers, landlords and investors.

Recent high profile transactions include:
- The acquisition of a new 30,000 sq ft headquarters in central London for a fast growing digital media agency, Essence Media;
- The purchase of a Midtown office investment on behalf of MDDUS and;
- The acquisition of new headquarters for the Royal Academy of Dance.

Richard is lead contact for a number of charities including Care International UK, Leukemia and Lymphoma Research and the London Philharmonic Orchestra

He is a keen avid sports fan and active participant in Ironman triathlons having completed the UK, France and German Ironman competitions in recent years.

Debbie Warwick

Debbie Warwick

Partner

Debbie worked in both the public and private sector before joining Daniel Watney in 2008, with roles at the Valuation Office, Weatherall Green & Smith (now BNP Paribas) and as a director of niche rating firm, Dixon Rankin, giving her an in depth knowledge of the rating system.

As head of our rating team, Debbie works with a number of property companies, developers, investment funds, trusts and private investors providing detailed rating advice and guidance across all disciplines of the rating sphere.

Debbie has extensive experience in helping companies to mitigate their exposure to empty property rates. Whether the client has property sitting idle while awaiting planning permission or is holding an empty property whilst in search for a new tenant, Debbie has advised client’s on a number of alternative solutions to lower the burden of empty property rates.

More recently, Debbie has worked closely with Frogmore and Land Securities on the joint redevelopment of the North West corner of Oxford Street and Tottenham Court Road.

A fan of the outdoors, Debbie is a keen golfer and skier.

Charles Mills

Charles Mills

Charles has over 15 years’ experience in delivering strategic development schemes and providing specialist town planning advice.

Leading our planning team, Charles works closely with a wide range of private and public sector clients providing ongoing advice and appraisal for asset management, the preparation of residential led master plans and various strategic planning proposals.

He has extensive experience in delivering complex planning permissions, planning bid guidance, change of use, appeals, appraisals, listed building and conservation advice; and ensuring political, local community and developer demands are satisfied.

Retained by a variety of public and private sector clients, his team specialise in high-profile developments where discretion is often vital. Charles has significant expertise in new build residential as well as mix-used, student housing and commercial real estate.

Charles is a member of RICS, an Associate member of the RTPI and is a RICS Accredited Mediator.

James Davis

James Davis

Partner

James started his career with University of Cambridge Estate Management and joined Daniel Watney following graduation from Liverpool John Moores University. He qualified with the firm in 1995 and since had roles with HSB Partnership and Lander & Company before starting his own practice in 2000. James rejoined Daniel Watney in 2014 as partner in the Building Consultancy team and undertakes both project and professional work.

He has worked within East Anglia and London acting for a range of investors, private companies and families as well as educational establishments, trade unions, charities and retailers.

He actively sets up and engages in our larger development, refurbishment and fit out projects, often as the lead consultant and project manager within multi-disciplinary design teams. He also oversees our less complex jobs to ensure they are completed effectively by the team.

In addition to project work James provides professional advice to landlords and tenants on dilapidations matters and undertakes building surveys and due diligence for pre-acquisition purposes. He is also a party wall specialist and member of the the Pyramus & Thisbe Club.

James is a member and treasurer of his local cycling club and competes in amateur events throughout the UK and in Europe.
